Today, more than ever, our clients are feeling the impacts of inflation and challenging economic times. While they may have purchased designer frames and top-grade lenses before, they are now hesitant to spend the money. At Sightcare, we want to work with you to ensure you get the prescription glasses you need while still looking good.
Here are some things to consider when purchasing glasses on a budget:
- Invest in quality lenses. If you are an everyday wearer of glass, it is wise to invest the greater part of your budget on the lenses. After all, lenses are what you need to have the best eyesight. Higher quality lenses delivery greater clarity and have advanced coatings that make them more wear resistant. As a result, they will last longer.
- Consider a “budget” frame this time rather than splurging on a designer frame. We carry a wide selection of frames for as low as $95.00. You can work with our eyewear stylist to choose a frame that looks and feel good, and you can feel good about saving the money.
- Make sure to use all your health benefits. Many of our clients have health benefits with their employer (or school for students). In addition, if you have a Partner you may be covered by their benefits too. Combining the plans could easily double (or more) your budget.
- Be prepared to pay a little out of pocket. If your health benefits only cover a small amount (for example, $200), be prepared to pay a little out of pocket to get quality prescription lenses. Paying an additional $2-300 to get what you really need is less than $10 per month when amortized over 2 years. Think of it this way… can you sacrifice a few trips to Starbucks or Timmys for the benefit of excellent vision?
- Be sure that you are comparing “like-for-like” when comparing offers. We find that many people believe that it is cheaper to buy glasses from Walmart, Costco or another big box store. They drawn in by the very attractive deals advertised without realizing that they will have a very limited selection of frames, and the lenses will be “standard” entry level. Be sure that you are making like-for-like comparisons when considering these offers.
Finally, if necessary, you could consider a payment plan. Most major credit cards have an option to break a larger purchase into installments. It is wise to investigate this option prior to visiting our location to ensure that you qualify. Purchases made with these plans will incur fees and interest, so be sure to read the “fine print” ahead of time.
